UMBRELLA HOUSE, KAILUA KONA

Resting on the upper slopes of Hualalai is a private residence inspired by relaxing under a beach umbrella.  The home overlooks the Kona coast while gazing over 180 degrees of horizon.  Spaces are organized around a central pavilion roof and ancillary spaces surrounding it. The main hale roof contains the entertaining space and kitchen.  On the side is the dining room, media room, and pantry.  The bedroom hale roof provides shelter for 2 bedrooms accompanied by bathrooms and closets.  Each ancillary space is strategically placed to take advantage of sunrise or sunset and the prevailing winds during the day and evening.  The program is arranged much like the necessities one may require while relaxing on the beach.  All nicely arranged and in the shade.
